Get ready to pick up a paintbrush and raise a glass—Wine & Design is celebrating a newly redesigned and upgraded shop.
Tom and Kathleen Barber, new owners of the local paint-and-sip studio at 1319 Military Cutoff Road Suite JJ, will kick off five days of special events and promotions with an appropriately themed renovation party at 6 p.m. tonight. Guests will be treated to complimentary wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres and there will be lots of raffles, prizes and giveaways. The first 10 people to sign up will receive a free painting class and, online, customers can register for a free gift certificate.
Harriet Mills, founder and CEO of Wine & Design, will also be on hand for the festivities. Wine & Design now has nearly 70 franchise locations nationwide, operating on a model of offering chic and sophisticated gatherings at an affordable price.
“With Tom and Kathleen’s expertise and unmatched energy and enthusiasm, we’re ecstatic to see the reopening of the Wilmington location after months of renovation,” Mills said. “Not only does the studio have wonderful visibility and high density traffic but the renew of the studio is incredible. The gorgeous signature stained glass mosaic is definitely a showstopper.”
In addition to that mosaic, a signature Wine & Design piece, the Barbers also brightened the studio throughout with splashes of franchise pink and white. They also created a new reception area, along with counters and refrigerators for customers to use for parties and events.
And the Barbers installed new sound systems and a television monitor for customers to observe the lead artist’s instructions, and added an platform for instructors and shelving to hold hundreds of paintings.

The Barbers, who are multi-unit franchise owners of a hair salon chain and recent retirees, opted into the Wine & Design business after taking a similar class at a nearby winery. Wine & Design offers opportunities for would-be artists of all ages and experience levels a chance to create a painting while enjoying some vino (only for the 21 and over crowd, of course).
“Having experience as franchisees, we knew this would be a business with staying power,” Tom Barber noted.
Following tonight’s party, Wine & Design will host its Family Fun Day at 1 p.m. Sunday. Kids can start painting at 2 p.m. for $10, and the first 10 to sign up will a free class. Kona Ice will serve up sno-cones and there will be other snacks onsite. Tick Tock the Clown will join the event, which will also include raffles, prizes and giveaways.
Then Monday, a BOGO (buy one, get one) party starts at 6 p.m. Participants should register in advance online for the BOGO offer. Wine & Design will host an open house for event planners only at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday’s 6 p.m. class will offer a chance to win a free team-building class. All three events will include free drinks and appetizers, as well as more raffles and giveaways.
