A flash fire inside a Winnabow home sent two people to the hospital Tuesday morning.
According to Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner, multiple fire units responded to a call about a house fire at 839 Gordon Lewis Drive at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday.
“When fire crews arrived, they found a resident located in the yard with serious burns, who was advising them that there was another person in the home with more serious burns,” Garner said.
EMS crews on scene began treating the injured people. One man was air-lifted to a hospital with life-threatening burns, Garner said. A woman was taken by EMS to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious burns.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental from an unknown liquid being poured onto a wood-burning stove, which caused the liquid to flash and burn the man and woman, Garner said. Crews found a small fire inside the home and quickly extinguished the fire.
The fire was limited to an area around the wood-burning stove, Garner said.
Fire crews from Winnabow, Leland, Bolivia, Boiling Spring Lakes and Northwest fire departments responded to the scene, along with Brunswick County EMS.
