Calling all craftsmen–The Thalian Association is currently seeking artists in a variety of mediums to participate in this year’s Orange Street ArtsFest.
The family friendly annual event, which is coming up on its 20th anniversary, will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 24, along Orange Street next to the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center, with some exhibitors inside the building.
Applicants must submit a color photo of original work in acrylic, oils, watercolor, sculpture, drawing, graphics, wearable arts, leather jewelry, clay, glass, fiber, metal work or mixed media. Photographically or commercially reproduced work is also acceptable in limited editions, signed and numbered by the artist.
Each year since 1994, the juried show–the largest of its kind in downtown Wilmington–has featured dozens of artists vying for a chance to take home prize money. Other highlights include live entertainment from Thalian Association and the organization’s Children’s Theater, old-fashioned fair food and onsite cuisine from chef Keith Rhodes and Catch Food Truck.
Orange Street ArtsFest also spotlights budding artists with its high school contest and exhibition, presented by the Wilmington Art Association in the lobby of the Hannah Block center. The exhibition features the work of students from seven public and private high schools in New Hanover County.
