Port City Radio 103.7 FM will launch its newest show at 6 p.m. today.
“The Adventure Magazine with Monroe and Gigi” is presented by Great Outdoor Provision Co. It’s a weekly one-hour show that will explore all facets of the outdoors, according to Aimee Bowen, program director for Port City Radio.
Each week host Monroe Fisher, a native Carolinian, explorer and anthropologist best known for his African expeditions, and Austrian co-host Gigi–an adventurer and world traveler in her own right–will introduce listeners to the world of global exploration and adventure.
“The Adventure Magazine with Monroe and Gigi” will feature compelling interviews with explorers, adventurers and athletes from across the globe, trip reports detailing off-the-beaten path destinations, great reviews, camp fire recipes and more.
“From start to finish, you’ll be taken on an expedition to parts unknown,” Bowen said.
Monroe is an explorer, anthropologist, ethnographic documentary filmmaker, a published author, a fellow with The Royal Geographical Society in London, an international fellow with The Explorers Club in New York City and a member of The American Anthropological Association. Between 2007 and 2014, he conducted six Explorers Club flag-sanctioned research expeditions to the African continent. Originally from South Carolina, Monroe is a graduate of Appalachian State University grew up in Banner Elk.
Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, Gigi likes to refer to herself as a “renaissance woman.” With a university degree in business informatics, Gigi has successfully reinvented herself numerous times throughout her adult life. Her current pursuit of a career as film producer, screen writer and actress is only interrupted by the incessant desire of adventuring to new places from near to far.
The two wanderers met by chance during a two-hour boat ride in 1996 traveling from Belize to Honduras. During that short boat trip they fell in love. In the following years they traveled over land through every country of Central and South America, and circumnavigated the globe two and a half times. They lived for more than a year in the rain forests of southern Belize, and just recently, after enjoying a decade in a sleepy little village in the Austrian country side, they moved to Wilmington.
With the show’s launch, “The Sports Connection” with Joe Catenacci and Cori Stukes will move to the 5 p.m. slot. “The Sports Connection” also airs at 11 a.m. Saturdays.
Last week, Hometown Wilmington Media General Manager Beau Gunn announced that Port City Radio would be the home of the Carolina Panthers for the 2014-2015 NFL season. All games can be heard on Port City Radio on 103.7 FM or by clicking here to stream Port City Radio live.
