New Hanover County will start collecting vegetative debris from last week’s winter storm in unincorporated areas beginning this Friday.

The county is working with DRC Emergency Services to collect vegetative debris caused by the storm in areas outside the City of Wilmington and other municipalities. Residents are asked to place vegetative debris—no construction or demolition material—beside streets by Friday, when crews will start daily collections between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Crews will start removing debris Wednesday from county schools and parks, then move into residential zones that are reflected on a map on the county’s website. A direct link to the map is available here.
Residents can use the map to check their zone’s collection status, specific service dates and contact information. Users can click on the map to select a location close to their address, or use the search bar at the top right of the screen to type in their address. Collection information is displayed by clicking on an area once the map has zoomed in.
Vegetative debris should be placed by the curbside and away from the street, drainage ditches, fire hydrants, street signs, mailboxes and parked cars. Residents are asked to not bag any debris and to cut larger branches into six foot lengths or less.
Crews will remove any tree limbs that are hanging or leaning over public right-of-way. Crews will be making two passes in each area more than a week apart. Residents are asked to be cautious when driving around collection crews.
