A pedestrian died Sunday morning after he was struck by a vehicle in Carolina Beach.
Officers responded to the incident at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of North Lake Park Boulevard, according to S.T. Hettinger, a detective with the Carolina Beach Police Department.
The victim–45-year-old Jeffrey Helms–was struck by a vehicle as he crossed North Lake Park Boulevard, Hettinger said. Helms was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 6:13 a.m., Hettinger said.
Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in Helms’ death.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged.
