WPD weekend crime report: Man attempts robbery on bike; breaking and entering at Ivy Cottage

Wilmington police are investigating several robberies that occurred over the weekend. According to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley, the following incidents were reported Sept. 6-9:

  • On Friday, Sept. 6, a breaking and entering and larceny occurred at 8:13 p.m. in the 3100 block of Market Street. Officers responded to an alarm activation at the Ivy Cottage. Police did not find anyone inside the store. Officers believe a small amount of cash was taken from the register.
  • On Sunday, Sept. 8, an attempted armed robbery occurred at 5:25 p.m. on Rutledge Drive. The victim reported he was walking home from the store when he was approached by a white male. The suspect asked the victim for $5 but the victim stated he didn’t have any money. The suspect pulled out a gun and said he would shoot him in the leg if the victim did not give him the cash. Police are searching for a white male between the ages of 17 and 19 years old. The suspect was riding a blue beach cruiser bike. The suspect was not recognized by the victim or witnesses.
  • On Sunday, Sept 8, an armed robbery occurred at 4:26 p.m. on Market Street. Police spoke to a victim who reported he went to a room at the Budgetel Inn to get money from two female friends. While standing outside of the hotel room door, a black male came out of the room and pointed a .357 handgun at him. The suspect then took two televisions and left in an unknown direction. The suspect left the scene in an older model jeep.
