Work to preserve the Lincoln Road bridge over Banton Branch in Leland will require the bridge’s closure for several months starting Tuesday.

Work is scheduled to begin July 9 at 6 a.m. and is expected to be complete in November, according to a notice from the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The bridge is located on Lincoln Road just north of its intersection with Village Road and Old Mill Road, and just south of Lincoln Elementary School.

Motorists are advised to use signed detour routes along Lincoln, Village and Mt. Misery roads.

The project is part of a $450-million state-funded bridge plan that calls for preservation, repairs or replacement of bridges statewide.

The Lincoln Road bridge was built in 1966 and is deemed structurally deficient, the DOT said. “This means the bridge is safe, but it needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands,” the notice states.
