Wilmington Police Department DWI checkpoint yields 66 charges

Wilmington police issued 66 charges during a multi-agency DWI checkpoint Friday night on Oleander Drive.

“These checkpoints are conducted in an effort to identify and remove impaired drivers from the highway,” Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Linda Rawley said. “The N.C. State Highway Patrol conducted a simultaneous checkpoint on Wrightsville Avenue.” 

Police wrote 66 citations, including the following:

  • Seven DWI charges
  • One driving after consuming alcohol under the age of 21 charge
  • Twenty-three driving without a license charges
  • One felony warrant
  • One misdemeanor warrant
  • Thirty-five various charges

The police department worked with six other law enforcement agencies, including N.C. State Highway Patrol, University of North Carolina at Wilmington Police Department, Burgaw Police Department, Jacksonville Police Department, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
