Wilmington man sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for heroin distribution

A Wilmington man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing heroin.

According to U.S. Attorney’s Office Spokesman Don Connelly, Chief U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III sentenced Carnell Randall White, 24, of Wilmington, to 120 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.

White pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of 100 grams or more of heroin on Nov. 14, 2012.

According to Connelly, detectives with the Wilmington Police Department made three undercover purchases of heroin from White between September 2011 and February 2012.

The Wilmington Police Department stopped a rental car driven by Kathy Mishoe with Linwood Nelson as a passenger as they were returning to Wilmington from New Jersey on March 26, 2012. Detectives found 7,500 bags of heroin inside the vehicle, which were to be delivered to White and Kenneth Harris for distribution, Connelly said.

On March 6, Harris was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for distributing heroin. (Related story)

Between November 2011 and February 2012, the group allegedly imported more than 16,500 bags of heroin from New Jersey, Connelly said. According to the investigation, White was responsible for distributing more than 1.5 kilograms of heroin in eastern North Carolina.

“This case was brought as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation Woof Pack, investigating importers and multi-level distributors of heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, and gang activity associated with this distribution,” Connelly said.

Thirty-three people have been sentenced in federal court as a part of this operation, Connelly said.
