Wilmington crime roundup: Police investigate shooting, assaults, armed robberies

Wilmington Police officers are searching for suspects involved in multiple crimes reported over the weekend.

Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Lucy Crockett said a male victim was shot in the knee after he allegedly attempted to buy marijuana in the 700 block of Brunswick Street just after 1 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12.

Crockett said the victim was walking home when a vehicle pulled beside him.  The male driver asked the victim if he was looking for something, and the victim told him was trying to buy marijuana, Crockett said.

The victim handed the cash to the driver, who took the money and shot the victim in the knee, Crockett said. The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Responding officers, including K-9 units, were unable to find the suspect, Crockett said.

Other cases being investigated by Wilmington Police include:

  • Three suspects are wanted for first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon reported at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in the 200 block of Williamson Drive in Wilmington. Three suspects forced their way into a woman’s home. One suspect struck the woman in the eye with a handgun. The suspects took the woman’s prescription medication, Wii game system and TV, which they left in the front yard. The suspects were described as three black males wearing black hoodies and black cloth partially covering their faces. The suspects got into a gray Trailblazer.
  • Police are searching for a male suspect who picked up a female around 11:37 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, in the 1700 block of Carolina Beach Road. Police said the female victim was walking down the road when a man driving a tan Jeep offered her a ride, which she accepted. The victim said she was taken to a used car lot, where she was sexually assaulted. The woman was able to get away. Police are searching for a male suspect who is about 6-feet tall and approximately 40 years old. The suspect had an afro.
  • Police said a woman returned to her vehicle around 7:44 p.m. Sunday at a parking area near Walnut and Water streets, where a male suspect put a gun to her head, grabbed a bag from her front seat and ran. The victim said the bag contained clothing. The man was wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.
  • Police are searching for three men and a woman who were involved in an armed robbery at 8:39 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, in the 400 block of North 12th Street. About 15 minutes before she was robbed, the victim reported a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a white bandana attempted to turn her front door knob to get inside. A short time later a woman knocked at her door, and asked for the victim by name. When the victim opened the door, two male suspects with handguns went into her apartment, while the female suspect and a third male suspect waited outside. The suspects stole the victim’s cash. The victim described each suspect as about 19 years old.
  • A man was walking to the Hilton Hotel around 1:20 a.m. Monday, when a man knocked him down from behind at 100 N. Water St.  The victim said the man tried reached into his pockets and then ran away. The man was described as being 5-feet-10-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds and wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt.
