WILMINGTON — Police have arrested a Wilmington man in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman early Sunday morning on Dawson Street.
Marvin Singleton, 46, was taken into custody Wednesday following an investigation by the Wilmington Police Department’s Gun Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigation Division. Singleton is charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and a parole violation.

The charges stem from the death of Demetria Ingram, 26, who was shot just before 1:30 a.m. on March 8. Officers originally responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 1300 block of Dawson Street, where they located Ingram suffering from a gunshot wound. She later died from her injuries.
WPD initially described the shooting as an isolated incident. Following the arrest, the department issued a statement extending prayers and condolences to Ingram’s friends and family.
Singleton is currently being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. He had his first appearance March 12 in the New Hanover County Courthouse before Judge Lindsey Leigh McKee and is scheduled to appear again on April 2 for the assignment of electronic warrants.
