SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A new leader serving a youth organization that spans multiple counties takes her post to guide the future of the nonprofit.
Dawn-Michele Blalock of Hampstead will oversee the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern North Carolina, which has locations in both New Hanover and Onslow counties.
“We have so many challenges across our communities, it is imperative that we support the next generation,” Blalock said in a press release. “Providing opportunities for children to grow and develop into contributing adults is the best way to tackle these challenges.”
The clubs offer various programs in education, the arts, health and wellness and sports and recreation for all ages of youth that come from disadvantaged socio-economic, social or family backgrounds. The organization also provide workforce readiness training and help shape young minds with character and leadership opportunities.
A graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, Blalock’s background is in the healthcare and nonprofit sectors. She served as chief strategy officer for Care Solutions and Ascend Health, according to her LinkedIn profile, and was the executive vice president of strategic initiatives for Healthcare Navigator.
She created a bereavement camp for kids to help with their grief process and was recognized by the Spartanburg Chamber as Minority Leader of the Year and Businesswoman of the Year. A Riley Institute for Diversity Leadership Fellow, she also obtained the South Carolina Governor’s Quality Award.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America conducted the CEO search for southeastern North Carolina, with local board members comprising the search committee.
“I am fully confident she is the right leader to support our organization,” board chair Michele Long noted in the release. “She will be singularly focused on having an even greater impact on the children and teens we serve.”
