Adams, men’s tennis represent UNCW at NCAAs; Diamond Hawks open key CAA series Thursday

The UNCW men’s tennis team opens the regional round of the NCAA Tournament at Duke on Thursday. The Seahawks and South Carolina compete today, with the host Blue Devils taking on Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. Duke is the No. 1 seed in the first-round bracket, followed by USC, UNCW and CCU. The winners play Saturday at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to the NCAA’s Final 16 in Urbana, Ill.

 

Adams opens regional play in Oklahoma

UNCW junior Lori Beth Adams will make her third straight postseason appearance this week as she competes as an individual entry in the 2013 NCAA Women’s Golf Central Regional at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

The 2013 NCAA Central Regional will take place May 9-11 and is one of three 54-hole tournaments that will feature 24 teams and six individual entries. The top eight teams and two individuals not part of an advancing team from each of the three regional sites will qualify for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships, scheduled to be played May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

 

First place Diamond Hawks host Tribe in key CAA series

The Diamond Hawks host second-place William & Mary in a pivotal Colonial Athletic Association series for both teams as they look to secure one of the top two seeds in the CAA Championship tournament later this month.

The league leading Seahawks entertain second-place William & Mary in a key three game series beginning on Thursday,

Game times are set for a 6 p.m. first pitch Thursday and Friday and a 2 p.m. matinee to close out the series on Saturday.

UNCW dropped a 7-2 decision earlier this week at No. 5 NC State and the Tribe enter the weekend coming off a three game sweep over Hofstra last weekend in Williamsburg.

Michael Bass continues to lead the Seahawks with a .396 average. He’s dropped below the .400 mark for the first time since mid-March. Bass is ranked amongst the national leaders in batting average, runs and on base average.

Corey Dick and Tyler Molinaro are tied for the club lead with seven homers while Luke Dunlap has a team-high 38RBIs.

On the mound, Jordan Ramsey is second in the league with a 2.13 earned run average while Mat Batts sits at 8-2 with a 2.90 ERA entering this week’s showdown with William & Mary.
