CAROLINA BEACH — Carolina Beach is preparing for a vibrant weekend of live art, creativity, and community celebration this spring.

The second annual MuralFest takes place May 16 and 17, with the theme “Livin’ Carolina Beach.” The festival will feature 36 original, 4-by-4-foot painted canvases displayed along Carolina Beach Lake. The works will be created by 32 North Carolina artists and local school children also participate in an open-air art experience, painting live on-site as the public watches.

Artists who want to apply to be part of the event can do so here and will paint one side of the half-inch plywood panel. The works will remain on display around the lake through September and then will be auctioned off, with 50% of final proceeds going directly to the artist.

The May event will also have food trucks and live music, with participating artists invited to set up vendor booths to paint, engage with the public, and display artwork to sell.

The local nonprofit organization Carolina Beach Mural Project — which has overseen 20 murals installed across the island — is hosting the event. The project is dedicated to celebrating the island’s rich history and culture through public art. Learn more here.
