Casting call for ‘Merv,’ including Zooey Deschanel stand-in

WILMINGTON — A movie setting up production in Kure Beach has open roles for consideration.

“Merv,” starring Zooey Deschanel, is a rom-com about a couple who breaks up and thereafter their shared dog goes into depression. Upon taking the pooch on vacation, the two run into each other and rekindle love.

According to agency TW Cast and Recruit, the films needs actors and actresses to flesh out scenes. For example, stand-ins are needed for both lead roles, Anna and Russ. Filming will take place between April 18 and June 7; there will be a camera test day on April 12. Pay is $137.50 per 10 hours, with time-and-a-half that exceeds the tenth hour.

Anna’s Stand-In: Caucasian female, with a fair complexion, brunette hair, and who stands between 5-foot-4-inches to 5-foot-6-inches, and in her 30s or 40s. Sizes are: 0-2 for shirt, 2-24 for pants and 0-4 for dress.

Russ’ Stand-In: Caucasian, brunette male, with facial hair and a “scruffiness” is preferred though not mandatory. He stands 5-foot-9-inches to 5-foot-11-inches and is in his 30s or 40s. Sizes are medium shirt, 31-32 pant and 39-40R jacket.

Below roles are to film April 18-19, and will be paid $123.75 per 10 hours with time-and-a-half overtime.

Patient: Male any ethnicity, 65 and up, to film on April 18.

Parent: Any gender or ethnicity, ages 20s to 40s, to film on April 18.

Child: Any gender or ethnicity, ages 8 to 11, to film on April 18.

Motel Guests: Any gender or ethnicity, 18 and up, to film on April 19.

Travelers: Any gender or ethnicity, 18 and up, to film on April 19.

Dog Owners: Any gender or ethnicity, 18 and up, to film on April 19; add “dog” to special skills section on CastGen for easy future search.

Other roles to be considered will film Tuesday, April 23. They are all paid $123.75 per 10 hours with time-and-a-half overtime.

City Worker: Any gender or enthnicity, ages 25 and up; call time will be before sunrise. Fitting required end of April 15 week.

Mail Carrier: Any gender or enthnicity, ages 25 and up; call time will be before sunrise. Fitting required end of April 15 week. The role requires being “chased by a small dog.”

Dog Walker: Any gender or enthnicity, ages 18 and up; must be comfortable walking multiple dogs at a time. Dogs are provided but those who have their own and wish to to apply are welcome, as long as the animals are well-behaved.

Beach Waitstaff: Any gender or ethnicity, age 21 and up.

Call times can be as early as 5 a.m. and last through the evening, up to 12 hours. Interested parties must submit via a CastGen account; click here to register or login.
