WILMINGTON — It was a night of multi-genre celebration at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater on Aug. 20, when hip-hop-blues-rock artist G. Love, reggae-rapper Matisyahu and rockers Cydeways took to the stage.

“Cydeways opened and brought a lot of energy and really got the crowd ready for a good night of music,” according to Tom Dorgan, who was there to photograph the show for Port City Daily. They performed “We Wont Run” and Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.”

G. Love and Special Sauce was the main event and played through hits that also were in tribute to hip-hop’s 50 years. It included a medley of “Cold Beverage into Paid in Full” by Eric B and Rakim — the latter of whom played Live Oak Pavilion the night before.

The band also tipped its hat to A Tribe Called Quest in “Buggin’ Out,” Snoop on “Gin and Juice (Snoop) and Biz Markie with “Just a Friend.”

Matisyahu was backed by Cydeways. Also on tour with Matisyahu was Ezzra Miller, an American actor known for movies like “We Need to Talk About Kevin,” who played percussion.
