Friends, family to host candlelight vigil for Karen Molta

WILMINGTON — A woman who was found in a retention pond near Mill Creek Apartments earlier this week will be celebrated Sunday.

Family and friends have announced a vigil will be held for 31-year-old Karen Molta at Anne McCrary Park, 4000 Randall Parkway, at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Molta was reported missing Saturday, Aug. 19. She was last been seen in the 500 block of Mill Creek Court at Mill Creek Apartments.

The Wilmington Police Department reported the following Wednesday that the human remains located in a retention pond on Tuesday, Aug. 22, were positively identified as Molta.

Law enforcement were working on the missing person case when they discovered the body. They were canvassing Anne McCrary Park by foot and came upon the remains.

According to WPD, there is no evidence of foul play; however, the investigation is active and ongoing. The medical examiner’s office is conducting an autopsy.
