LELAND — Named as a nod to a long-running Leland mini-mart, McGee Market is now open on Village Road.
The new McGee Market replaces McGee’s Mini Mart & Deli, which closed over 10 years ago after opening in the 70s, its new owner, Naseer Odeh, said.

McGee Market is Odeh’s first Leland business. He spent nearly 20 years as a cook at Buy & Go on Ploof Road before buying the former McGee’s Mini Mart & Deli in 2016. When he started working on renovating the store, he said people stopped by, and told him about the old McGee’s.
“I hear about people that talk about it from spirit,” Odeh said. “I said, ‘I’m going to keep it.'”
So, he kept the name, and rebuilt the entire building. He hand-built wood shelving, which holds convenience store items. A variety of wine and beer are sold at the store, open daily from 5 a.m. until 9 p.m., except on Sundays, when it closes at 6 p.m.
The store opened in early 2019, and the health department gave Odeh the OK to open up his deli mid-February.

McGee Market’s deli features a menu of Mediterranean, Latin and American Items. Burgers, roast beef, ham and cheese and grilled chicken sandwiches are among the deli’s American lunch items. Chicken, ham or marinated pork tortas, beef or pork tacos, and chicken quesadillas and enchiladas top off McGee Market’s Latin menu.
For Mediterranean options, made-to-order shawarmas, falafel, gyros and a hummus plate. Breakfast burritos, egg and cheese biscuits and more can be ordered daily between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Odeh said his cooks put love into the deli’s varied menu options. “They prepare it with heart,” he said. “If you don’t love it, don’t do it.”
McGee Market is open daily at 832 Village Road.
