WILMINGTON — Cigar smokers have had few choices in the area if they wanted to enjoy a beer or other adult beverage while smoking a premium cigar, but now Wilmington has Rocco’s Cigar Bar, a place you can do just that.
Rocco’s Cigar Bar is officially open for business and offers guests a full liquor bar, beer on draught, and a large walk-in humidor full of cigars for enjoyment.
Owner Steve Gimello has been in the cigar business in Wilmington for nearly two decades running Brooklyn Cigars, but after searching for several years for the perfect location, he finally found it.
“I’ve been in the cigar business going on 17 years, we always wanted to have another side of the business where people could smoke and drink so it took us some time to find the right location, but I think we did. We’re trying to give the full experience of smoking, not only in a nice lounge, but also being able to enjoy a beer or cocktail and sports all in the same place. Were the only place in town that you can smoke and drink,” Gimello said.
Of course, there are other cigar shops in Wilmington, but the combination of a full lounge and full bar is unique to Rocco’s.
Gimello understands that drinking might not be for everyone that’s why he said Rocco’s is a place where everyone is welcome to come enjoy a cigar and watch sports on tv, no drink required. Rocco’s offers sports fans a place to watch their favorite teams on big-screen TVs while enjoying a cigar, as well as a pool table and darts.
The bar takes its name from Gimello’s grandfather Rocco, a cigar smoker.
“Rocco is my father’s father, my grandfather, and he used to smoke cigars when I was younger and I felt it would be an appropriate name to keep his memory living,” Gimello said.
Gimello plans on hosting Special events including beer, bourbon, scotch and other whiskey tastings eventually. Currently, the official grand opening is planned for the Saturday after Labor Day and will feature live music, a cigar vendor with specials, and hopefully a liquor or beer vendor as well, he said.
Rocco’s Cigar Bar is located at 5671 Market Street in Wilmington and open 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Friday – Saturday, and noon – 7 on Sunday. Hours could change to accommodate sports schedules, especially during football season, Gimello said, but that will be addressed at a later time.
