WILMINGTON—After opening in late March, Tyson’s has announced it will permanently close. On Saturday, Tyson’s announced on its Facebook page that the new 1016 South College restaurant will no longer be open.

“We really tried to hold on,” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page.

When Tyson’s opened March 20, the restaurant was employing its wait staff from its flagship location in Lumberton.

The family-run business in Lumberton has been awarded the “best cheeseburger in Robeson County” for many years, according to its owner Justin Tyson. During the restaurant’s opening week, staff from Lumberton were still traveling to assist the new location in Wilmington.

Tyson’s Lumberton-based owner, Glenda Tyson, wrote the restaurant had difficulty with new equipment, hiring Wilmington-based staff and preparing food fresh for a slow customer base.

“I promise 15 minutes is the only wait time when we run completely out of chicken in our Lumberton locations so if you’re ever in town please stop by,” Tyson wrote.
