As part of Historic Wilmington Foundation’s Preservation Month, the inaugural event on May 17 is designed to celebrate the growth in the city’s Castle Street’s Arts & Antiques District.

A $30 ticket grants access to a historic walking tour from Irv Freedland, a longtime resident with generational roots on Castle Street. Freedland’s father formerly owned Friendly’s Department store at 615 Castle St., which now houses the consignment store Second Skin Vintage. At Second Skin Vintage, crawlers will be treated to models displaying 100 years of fashion.

Ticket cost includes walking tour, food, wine, beer, a dance party, one-night-only sales at several Castle Street shops and membership to Historic Wilmington Foundation through 2018.

Ironclad Brewery and New Anthem Beer Project will supply the brews and Wilmington Wine will offer tastings at 605 Castle St.

Refreshments will be provided by Platypus & Gnome, The George, Love Lydia, The District Kitchen & Cocktails, Crust and Peppered Cupcake.

All food and drinks will be available at the historic fire station at 602 South 5th St. where the crawl is scheduled to begin. Café Nouveau will be stringing live tunes in the firehouse’s courtyard.

According to Christine Divoky, Historic Wilmington Foundation’s director of marketing and special events, store activities are open to the general public with or without a Castle Street Crawl ticket.

At Jess James + Co., the celebration begins early with a retro dance party from 5 to 7 p.m. hosted by the Beehive Blondes. The blondes will carry on the crawl to the South Front District at Satellite Bar and Lounge, where the DJ-duo will spin Motown tunes.

From 8:30 to 11 p.m., the Beehive Blondes will perform for the crawl’s unofficial after-party, which also happens to coincide with the group’s 1-year anniversary.

The craw will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets to the Castle Street Crawl can be purchased online and are limited.
