LAKE WACCAMAW—A public input meeting for a North Carolina Department of Air Quality permit, continued earlier this month in Delco, will be held tomorrow evening, in a new location, Lake Waccamaw.
The hearing concerns the possible approval of an permit for methyl bromide fumigation (read the application online). The proposed operation would take place roughly one mile from the Brunswick County line.
The continuation was scheduled after DAQ public meeting at ACME-Delco Middle School in early May was continued. That came after the building’s meeting space reached capacity at over 190 people.
Brad Newland, DAQ’s regional supervisor, said the DAQ decided to hold a continuation of the May 3 meeting in order to allow more people to comfortably attend. He referred all other questions to the department’s public relations department, which did not return calls.
The continued meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the East Columbus High School auditorium, 32 Gator Lane in Lake Waccamaw, May 15.
The information session will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. and the public hearing will begin at 7 p.m.
Individuals who cannot attend may submit their comments via email to publiccomments@ncdenr.gov. The public comment period for this air fumigation permit ends May 18.
