Museum welcomes new staff
Cape Fear Museum of History and Science has welcomed Kate Baillon as its manager of collections and exhibits.
According to a press release, Baillon will oversee the exhibition planning process, solicit grant funding, and help build, enhance, and expand the Museum’s collection.
Cape Fear Community College receives grant to provide assistance for veterans pursuing truck driver training
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration awarded a $97,607 grant to Cape Fear Community College (CFCC). This grant gives CFCC the opportunity to award over $50,000 in scholarship assistance for veterans and active duty military seeking a commercial driver’s license certificate through CFCC’s Truck Driver Training program.
Local McDonald’s franchises award 18 scholarships to employees
Dennis Anderson and David Anderson, owners and operators of multiple McDonald’s Restaurants throughout Wilmington and Brunswick County, awarded employees Dillon Roberts, Ginger Wade, Samantha Mitchell, Cadijah McCray, Kathryn Shibley, James Merrifield, Irving Cruz, Keisha Gills, Takelia Perry, Juanicka Wright, Sarah Beasley, Jolene Igaya, William Lewis, Trevor Silcox, Anthony Hughes, Jade Moore, Heather King, and Chelsea Downey scholarships with a total value of $9,000.
The scholarships are designated for employees that are high school graduates, college students, or returning students attending or planning to attend a two- or four-year accredited college, university, vocational school or technical school.
The Arts Council Awards $50,000 in grants to local arts organizations
The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County has awarded $50,000 in grants to 22 local arts organizations.
2017-2018 Grassroots Arts Program grantees are Alban Elved Dance Company, Black Arts Alliance, Cape Fear Chorale, CFCC Foundation, Cape Fear Cultural Association of India, Cape Fear Jazz Society, Chamber Music Wilmington, Dance Cooperative, Dram Tree Shakespeare, Mouths of Babes, North Carolina Jazz Festival, Opera Wilmington, Port City Music Festival, Port City Playwrights, Snipes Academy of Art, Thalian Hall, UNCW Presents, WHQR, Wilmington Ballet, Wilmington Choral Society, Wilmington Symphonic Winds and Wilmington Symphony Orchestra.
