Parents of students from Southport Elementary, South Brunswick Middle School and South Brunswick High School are advised that the schools will be dismissed early today due to expected power interruptions.
According to a release from Brunswick County Schools, students will be let out at 1 p.m.
Earlier today, power outages occurred in the Southport and Boiling Springs Lake area. Duke Energy crews are repairing the transmission system causing the outages, and their work is expected to cause intermittent power disruptions.
“We know this is not an ideal situation and we appreciate your assistance with this unexpected, early dismissal,” said Jessica Swencki, executive director of quality assurance and community engagement for Brunswick County Schools. “The safety of our students and staff if our top priority.”
All after school activities at the three schools have been canceled.
