General Shale CEO Richard Green to retire

General Shale has announced that Richard L. Green will retire as CEO effective April 1.

Spanning 40 years, Green’s career has been spent entirely at General Shale, beginning in 1973 as a management trainee, according to a press release from the company. After being promoted to manager of the Knoxville (Tenn.) brick plant, Green was named regional production manager with the responsibility of supervising several of the company’s manufacturing facilities. In the early 1990s, he was appointed vice president of marketing before being promoted to the company’s top executive post in 1994.

“After nearly 20 years at the helm of General Shale, and four decades working for this outstanding organization, I have decided that the time is right to retire,” Green said. “I am leaving with immense satisfaction in what we have achieved in the U.S. brick industry, and I am very proud of the company in which I have invested my life’s work. I also leave with great optimism for General Shale’s future, and I am confident that we have set a strong course for persistent, sustainable growth.”

Charles Smith, current president and COO of General Shale, will succeed Green as CEO.

New procedure at Wilmington Dermatology

Dr. Rosalyn George is the first physician and dermatologist in the Wilmington to offer the miraDry Procedure, a new treatment option that provides a safe and lasting solution for excessive underarm sweat, a debilitating condition also known as primary axillary hyperhidrosis, according to a press release from the practice.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the miraDry System following a robust, randomized, blinded clinical study that involved 120 patients at seven clinics across the U.S. and followed them for 12 months post treatment. The procedure is supported by compelling safety and efficacy data from multiple clinical studies with recent clinical data showing 90 percent efficacy and 90 percent patient satisfaction.

The miraDry Procedure is performed in the dermatologist’s office and takes approximately one hour. The miraDryProcedure delivers precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the area under the arm where the sweat glands reside, and heats and eliminates the sweat glands. Since sweat glands do not regenerate, results are lasting. The procedure is non-invasive with little to no downtime, so patients can go about their normal routines after treatment. The full treatment plan requires two procedures to maximize results.

“Underarm sweat can be debilitating and it can have a huge impact on someone’s lifestyle and quality of life,” George said. “I often see patients who struggle with the embarrassment of sweating in social situations and must constantly deal with ruined clothes. They are looking for more effective nonsurgical options to treat this condition for good.”
