Frank Sherman Clawson, 89

Frank Sherman Clawson (Atlantic Cremation Services)

WILMINGTON — Frank Sherman Clawson, 89, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of deep dedication to his family, his country, and a distinguished professional career.

Born to the late Kermit and Dorothy (Sherman) Clawson, Frank grew up with a profound respect for hard work, integrity, and community. He graduated from Clemson University before proudly serving his country, first in the New Jersey Air National Guard and later on active duty in the United States Air Force.

Following his military service, Frank built a highly successful career in the telecommunications industry. He served as an administrative executive with Teletype Corporation (a prominent subsidiary of Western Electric and AT&T) at its manufacturing operations in Little Rock, Arkansas. His strategic leadership and corporate expertise left a lasting impact on the industry and the many colleagues he mentored throughout his career.

Frank’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud and loving father to his three children: Sue, Rick (Betsy), and Scott (Tara).

His legacy of love and guidance lives on through his grandchildren: Kira, Thomas (Jessie), Kate, and Brittany (Phil), along with his great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Dick Clawson (Phyllis), Bob Clawson (Fran) and Sister-in-Law Marilyn Clawson. Frank was preceded in death by his brother Jim and his beloved granddaughter, Justine.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, or online at lifecare.org.
