WILMINGTON — Samuel David Frazier went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina.
David was born July 18, 1931, in Blaine, Tennessee to parents W.D. and Nancy Jarvis Frazier.
David met his wife, Jean, when they were students at Carson-Newman College, which they both graduated from in 1953. David also graduated from The University of Tennessee with a Master’s degree and Florida State with a Doctorate in counseling and administration. He also served his country in the Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant First Class. Dr. Frazier began his career in higher education administration at the University of Georgia. He was also a Dean at Young Harris College in Georgia, followed by a Presidency at Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina from 1965-1988. He later served as interim president of five different colleges between Massachusetts to Arkansas from 1992-2000.
David was active in numerous professional organizations at the state and national level. He received two honorary doctorates from Campbell University and William Peace University. Dr. Frazier was named President Emeritus of Peace College and inducted into the Peace College Athletics Hall of Fame. David was a longtime Kiwanian and an elder in four Presbyterian congregations. He was also highly involved in the Regional Collegiate Accreditation Association.
David is survived by his children DeAnne Frazier and Nelson Frazier, grandchildren Darby Fertitta and Cameron Cox, brother Mike Frazier and sister Judy Mitchell as well as dozens of nieces and nephews.
He is reunited in heaven with his parents, W.D. and Nancy Frazier, his wife Jean Frazier, his brothers John Frazier, Don Frazier, Clay Frazier, and Stanley Frazier along with his sisters, Nancy Frazier, Jane Frye, and Elyse Oakes.
