WILMINGTON — Ida Marie Levesque, a remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 102. Born on March 9, 1924, in Pineville, LA, Ida lived a life full of love, adventure, and resilience.
A dedicated homemaker, Ida created a warm and nurturing environment for her family, which she cherished above all else. She shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, a sailor, who predeceased her in 1987. Together, they raised a son and a daughter, instilling in them values of strength and perseverance. Though her son sadly passed before her, Ida’s legacy continues through her beloved daughter Gale and her treasured granddaughter-in-law Mary.
Ida was an avid traveler, exploring both the United States and the world with her daughter, making memories to last a lifetime. Her passion for life was evident in everything she did, whether it was caring for her cherished azaleas or savoring life’s simple pleasures like sweets, chocolates, golden coral, and nachos. Ida never left the house without her lipstick and nails perfectly done, a testament to her timeless elegance and grace.
Her involvement with the American Legion was a source of pride and community for Ida, as she actively engaged with fellow members. She served during World War II, a period that shaped her resilient and determined spirit. A devout Catholic, Ida was a steadfast supporter and advocate for education, always encouraging others to reach their full potential.
On her 102nd birthday, true to her spirited nature, Ida fulfilled her wish to dance. With joy in her heart, she swayed to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” with the Chief Commander, a memory cherished by all in attendance.
Ida is preceded in death by her loving parents, Eddie and Enola, her devoted husband, and her dear son. She leaves behind a family who adored her: her daughter Gale, her granddaughter-in-law Mary, her grandson, and a great-granddaughter who brought immense joy to her later years.
Although she has left this world, Ida’s legacy of love, laughter, and strength will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. A private celebration of her life will be held by her family at the American Legion at a later date.
