WILMINGTON — Cassie Inez “Kay” Weeks, a cherished resident of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Novant Heath Center on July 27, 2026, with her loving family by her side. Born on July 26, 1944, in Wilmington, Kay was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched many lives during her 82 years.
A proud graduate of New Hanover High School in 1963 and a student of Miller-Mott Business College, Kay then dedicated her professional life to Corning, where she worked diligently for around 35 years. Her commitment and work ethic were admired by colleagues and friends alike. She had been fortunate to maintain her Corning friendships since her retirement.
Kay’s talents extended beyond her professional endeavors. She was an avid crocheter, spending time crafting beautiful afghans for local dialysis patients and to be donated to veterans groups. Her generosity and skill brought comfort and warmth to many in her community. Kay also found joy in simple pleasures such as playing bingo and gathering with her group of women friends for lively games of dominos.
She was a member of Devon Park United Methodist Church for many years where she was very faithful to the children’s ministry. Later she transferred her membership to Wrightsboro United Methodist Church where she attended until her health declined.
Kay was preceded in death by her loving parents, Catherine Russ Weeks and Morris Caldwell Weeks, as well as her brother, Luther Morris Weeks, sister Libby Johnson, bother-in-law Earl Wells, and nephew Shannon Weeks.
She is survived by her dear sisters, Jo Etta Weeks of the home and Susie Wells of Burgaw, who will forever cherish their memories of her. She also leaves behind a niece and nephew and their families of Cleveland, Tennessee, a nephew and family in Rocky Point, and a nephew and family in Burgaw. In addition she has 2 cherished great nieces, 1 great nephew, and a godson, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Her life was further enriched by the companionship of her special friend, Penny Caison who was her cruising and bingo partner.
Though Kay has left this world, her spirit and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends. There is no service planned at this time.
