WILMINGTON — Susan Mathews Rose, 83, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026.
She was born on December 30, 1942, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to the late Lawrence H Mathews and the late Elizabeth Sullivan Mathews.
For more than 40 years, Susan dedicated herself to her career in accounting. She took great pride in her work and was known for her reliability, attention to detail, and strong work ethic. Susan loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. Susan also enjoyed knitting and had a special love for animals. Whether making something by hand or caring for the animals she loved, she found happiness in the simple things in life.
Susan is survived by her brother Jerry Earl Mathews (Jane); sister, Shirley Bradshaw; sister-in-law, Patsy R. Mathews, Betty Mathews; brother-in-law, Bryant Rose (Karen); nieces and nephews, Connie Clemmons (Mark), Lori Speight (Jim), Karen Miller (Ricky), Jennifer Mathews (Becky), Jeremy Mathews (Nella), Debbie Beverage, Mike Mathews (Lisa), Greg Mathews, Wendy Ellis, Jerry Ellis (Wendy), Joya Teter (Doug).
In addition to her parents, Susan was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Heston Lonnie Rose; her brothers, Lawrence H. Mathews, Roy W Mathews, Bobby Mathews; sister-in-law, Nancy Mathews; brother-in-law, Earl Bradshaw; and nephews, David Mathews, Ronald Bradshaw.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum in Wilmington, North Carolina.
