BURGAW — James Bryant Elixson, Jr., 74, passed peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 5, 1952 in Duplin County, the son of James Bryant Elixson, Sr. and Reba Hardee Elixson. In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara McLaughlin, David Elixson, and Reba Phillips.
James is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan Champion Elixson; daughter, Jenifer Cumming (Jim); son, Joshua Bryant Elixson (Priscella); grandchildren, Bryant Elixson, Reeve Cumming, Rylee Elixson, Cole Cumming, and Abygail Elixson; sister, Edna Moore (Edward); brother, Jimmy Elixson (Hilda); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to being a loving husband, daddy, granddaddy and brother, James was also a wonderful musician. He loved nothing more than spreading the word of God through singing and playing his guitar. He instilled this love into his daughter, son, grandchildren and the many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Jamsie”. James will be deeply missed, but his family is comforted in knowing he is with his Lord and Savior for the Bible says, “to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” II Corinthians 5:8
Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 with visitation to begin an hour earlier at 12:00 noon. The Rev. Gardner Eakins will conduct the service.
