WILMINGTON — Michael Bryan Townsend, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on July 7, 2026.
Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Michael later made Surf City, North Carolina his home. He graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant.
Outside of work, Michael embraced life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed playing golf and poker, cheering on his favorite sports teams, relaxing at the beach or fishing, listening to classic rock, watching John Wick movies, and never turned down an ice-cold Coca-Cola or a bowl of ice cream. More than anything, he treasured time with his family and never hesitated to go the extra mile just to be together. Whether sharing stories, watching a game, or simply enjoying one another’s company, Michael had a way of making every moment meaningful.
Michael’s family and friends will remember him as generous, dependable, and unwaveringly supportive. He was known for his positive outlook, even during life’s most difficult moments, and for meeting life’s challenges with strength and courage. His easygoing nature and sense of humor brought smiles to everyone around him. He was always there with a listening ear, thoughtful advice, or a helping hand whenever someone needed him. His steady presence and unconditional love left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Ann Townsend, and his siblings, Tracy Townsend and George Henry Townsend, III.
He is survived by his father, George Henry (Shirley) Townsend Jr.; his daughters, Ashley (Nathan) Conner and Megan (Robert) Perkins; his beloved grandsons, Brody Conner and Lawson Perkins; and his sister, Jeanne (Tom) Shannon.
Michael’s greatest legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched with his kindness, encouragement, and love. He will be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held Monday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at Onslow Memorial Park.
