WILMINGTON — Walter “Walt” Raymond Conlogue, 85, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on September 8, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Walt lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and an unwavering passion for the things he loved.
If you knew Walt, you knew his laugh. It was big, unmistakable, and could be heard from across the room. He had a larger-than-life personality, never met a stranger, and had a gift for turning an ordinary conversation into an unforgettable story. Whether he was sharing a tale from his flying days or reminiscing about an adventure, people naturally gathered around to listen.
Walt proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps, a chapter of his life that remained a great source of pride throughout the years. Following his military service, he pursued his lifelong love of aviation by becoming an airline pilot. Flying wasn’t simply a career; it was who he was. His fascination with aviation never faded, leading him to establish his own airplane sales company and spend countless hours talking about airplanes, building model aircraft, and sharing his knowledge with anyone willing to listen.
When he wasn’t in the air or talking about airplanes, Walt loved being on the water. Some of his happiest days were spent aboard his boat, fishing and enjoying the peacefulness that came with being out on the water. He also kept a close eye on world events and always had an opinion on the latest news, making for lively conversations with family and friends.
Throughout his life, Walt shared a special bond with the many dogs who were part of his family over the years. They were loyal companions who brought him endless joy and were never far from his side. Whether at home, out on the boat, or simply enjoying a quiet day together, his four-legged friends held a special place in his heart.
Above all else, Walt will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him. His enthusiasm was contagious, his stories unforgettable, and his generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He lived life with energy, curiosity, and a sense of humor that made every gathering a little brighter.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Raymond Conlogue Sr. and Lorraine Conlogue.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary Jo Conlogue, along with his cherished family, including his sister- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephew, great-niece, and great-nephews, as well as many dear friends who will forever miss his laughter, his stories, and the warmth of his presence.
Though his voice is now quiet, the echoes of Walt’s laughter, his love of flying, and the countless memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
