WILMINGTON — Leonard Craig Capps, known by Craig, at 69 years old was welcomed in to a bigger universe on May 30, 2026. He was residing in Wilmington North Carolina so he could be close to his daughter, Charlotte Hendrickson, however its Durham North Carolina that held his heart. His town of birth, the town his mother Wilma Faye Capps Morris was laid to rest, along with his brother, Derek Capps.
While his family ties were small, Craig never met a stranger. His need for connection gave him the ability to talk to anyone. He was able to find common ground with anyone. Always lending a smile or helping hand, he did not curse, gossip or speak ill on others. He listened and made others feel welcomed.
His baby sister, LeAnne Morris Wise, shares their mother’s zest for life. They both went against paths already traveled, finding the one that brought them peace and joy.
Craig prided himself on the meals he prepared for others. While it may seem small, the gift of a meal was what sealed a friendship with him. When it came to cooking, as with most things in life, the spicier the better
He enjoyed every moment with his grandchildren, always nurturing their individualism. His love for cooking and sharing meals lead to a common bond with his grandson, Alex, both eagerly searching for the best spices and flavor combinations. They shared excellent taste. He introduced his grandson, Cody, to his favorite sport wrestling. While Cody in turn introduced him to his love of trains. He was so proud of the natural artistic talent of his granddaughter, Eliot. Craig had an eye for the famous, believing Eliot could be the local artist everyone talked about.
Craig never apologized for being his authentic self. His only expectation of others was to be their authentic selves. He embraced life with the excitement of a child, cherishing the small moments, and wonders of the world around him. Just walk into his home, this would have been evident.
The traditional child, sibling, spouse, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend: he was not. He has been a guiding light, a guardian angle to all that crossed his path. His ability to love and let live has been and will always be the foundation for how he lived his life.
