WILMINGTON — Georgeann McNeill Haas passed away on March 23, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Whiteville, NC, to Hector and Kyard McNeill, Georgeann spent the last 50 years here in Wilmington. She was a gifted artist whose work is included in prestigious collections, including the Mint Museum of Art and the Cameron Art Museum.
Georgeann was also a dedicated educator. She spent many years teaching art in New Hanover County schools before finishing her career as the Supervisor of the Arts. In that role, she was responsible for supporting and promoting all arts in local schools, helping programs like “Best Foot Forward” grow to celebrate music, drama, and the visual arts.
She is survived by Doug Haas, her husband of nearly 50 years; two daughters, Katie Johnson and her husband Joseph, and Jessica Tesch and her husband Josh. The true lights of her life were her granddaughters, Maggie and Nora Tesch.
Georgeann created a beautiful life that was full of family, friends and her love of the arts. She felt drawn to share that passion with everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in her honor to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare or the Cameron Museum of Art.
