WILMINGTON — Margaret Matthews, cherished mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 79. Born on August 3, 1946, in Durham, NC, she lived a life full of love and meaningful connections.
Margaret spent her formative years in Durham, where she began her career as a dedicated Switch Board Operator at Duke University. Her tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit later led her to create a successful vintage car body shop, showcasing her passion and commitment to bringing classics back to life.
Her heart found joy in the simple pleasures of life—whether spending peaceful days on the beach with her beloved daughter Tammy and enjoying the lively companionship of her five chihuahuas. Among them, Bosco held a special place in her heart, and Scooby-Doo, the last of her furry companions, remains a testament to her enduring love for animals.
With a heart full of melody, she had an extraordinary gift for music that inspired those in her presence. Her red accordion, a treasured gift from her mother and a testament to her innate talent. Without ever formally learning music, Margaret had an incredible ability to play the organ purely by ear, weaving beautiful harmonies that resonated with all who listened.
Her music was more than just sound; it was an expression of her spirit, open and full of warmth. Margaret’s life was a symphony,
Margaret was preceded in death by her loving parents, Thomas and Fannie Parrott, and her siblings, Tom Parrott, Calvin Parrott, Kay Stokes, and Shirleen Wills. They now welcome her into eternal peace.
Left to celebrate her and cherish her memory are her devoted sister Sylvia Wimberley, beloved daughter Tammy Davis, and adored grandchild Joey Pope, along with his wife Carla and their children, Aubrey and Wyatt.
Though she has departed from this world, Margaret’s legacy continues through the lives of her family, the fond memories shared on sunny beaches.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in her hometown of Durham, NC, where friends and family will gather to honor her life and bid her a heartfelt farewell.
