WILMINGTON — Charles “Chuck” Edward Artis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at the age of 90 in Wilmington, NC, due to complications from a fall. Born on February 6, 1936, in Lima, Ohio, Chuck lived a life dedicated to service, both to his country and his family.
As a young man, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy on January 26 1954, where he embarked on a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades. Rising through the ranks with unwavering dedication and commitment, he retired as an E-9 Master Chief Petty Officer on August 19 1983. His time in the military was filled with numerous accomplishments, and he cherished the camaraderie and sense of purpose it brought him.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Chuck continued to serve others by mentoring and teaching “his kids” in the ROTC program at the local high school in Dunedin, FL. He took great joy in shaping the lives of young men and women, imparting wisdom and discipline learned from his years of service.
Chuck was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and held membership in the Fleet Reserve Association as a plank member. He was also a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), demonstrating his commitment to supporting his fellow veterans.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, George and Flossie Artis, and six of his siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Evelyn Artis; his daughters, Patricia Ocasio and her husband Ralph, Judith Rogers, and Sandra Jaymes; as well as his 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and sister Jeanne.
A service to honor Chuck’s life and legacy will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Chuck Artis will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud veteran, true patriot who loved his country. He was a guiding light to many and his steadfast love, devotion, and service will forever live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
