HAMPSTEAD — Larry George passed away on March 9, 2026 surrounded by his family after fighting almost a year of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Larry was the second of nine children born to Anna George Davis and Harold L. George in Three Rivers, Michigan. Raised in Michigan, Larry developed a deep love for farming, yard work, animals, and most importantly, friends and family—values that shaped the rest of his life.
From a young age, Larry was known for his strong work ethic. He delivered newspapers on his paper route, milked cows at Eugene’s farm, and worked as a custodian at the local hospital. His dedication and leadership skills led him to Redman Homes, where he steadily climbed the ladder to become Quality Control Manager. This position brought him to North Carolina. After Redman Homes closed, Larry joined Honda Power Equipment in the Engineering Department.
It was during his time at Honda that the Lord called Larry into ministry. With a heart for missionaries and a desire to serve, Larry and his former wife, Joyce George, founded Siloam Missionary Homes in Snow Camp in 1992. For 30 years, through 2022, he worked at Siloam Missionary Homes provided housing and support for missionaries on furlough and that ministry continues today. Larry’s life was marked by his obedience to that calling and his unwavering commitment to loving and serving others.
Larry deeply loved his two daughters and cherished his grandchildren. His entire family was involved in the ministry at Siloam Missionary Homes, and he found great joy in serving alongside them. The legacy Larry desired to leave was simple and powerful: that he loved people, and he loved his family.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Harold L. George. He is survived by his mother, Anna Davis of Burlington; his eight siblings: Harold Jr. (Roann) of South Carolina; Mark (Tom) of Florida; David (Julie) of South Carolina; Linda (Dan) of Missouri; Mary Ann (Mike) of Florida; Paula (Tony) of North Carolina; Sara (Scott) of North Carolina; and Phillip (Heather) of Michigan.
He is also survived by his daughters, Rachel George (Lindsay) of Burlington, NC, and Abbey Rich (Mike) of Hampstead; and his beloved grandchildren: Macie Rich (Jay) of California; Preston Rich of Hampstead; David Rich of Hampstead; and Drake and Cayden of Burlington, NC.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Siloam Missionary Homes at 1053 Quakenbush Rd. Snow Camp on April 11, 2026 at 1PM followed by a reception to visit with the family.
In lieu of flowers, Larry requested that monetary donations be made to Mission at Work, PO Box 728, Graham, NC 27253, earmarked “The Larry George Chapel.” This chapel is being built in Larry’s memory in Thailand, where he spent several weeks serving missionaries and ministering to children.
