WILMINGTON — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2026, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. She was 65 years old.
Born on January 25, 1961 in Wilmington, NC daughter of Hugh and Edna Browning (Johnson).
She dedicated more than 35 years of her life as a bus driver for New Hanover County Schools being a familiar face for many, before her retirement in January 2021.
She found joy in the simple and meaningful things fishing, being outdoors, and most of all, spending time with her family. Whether gathered around a meal or enjoying the sunshine, she was loved in every moment.
She is survived by her husband, Kenny; her daughter, Lindy (Jeff); her son, Weston (Kayla); her grandchildren, Brittany, Kayla, Leighton, Henley, and Maverick; and her great-grandchildren, Axel, Violet, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her sisters, Helen (Gene) and Kim (Bill), as well as her Aunt Sandra and Uncle Lynwood.
The family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s research in her honor.
“Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end; it simply means I’ll miss you until we meet again”.
Please leave memories and condolences for Shirley’s family here.
