Billie Hancock Lyndon (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Billie Hancock Lyndon passed away on Thursday, Feb. 5th, 2026 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born August 21, 1926 in Winston-Salem, NC to Gurnie and Minnie (McDowell) Hancock, and grew up on their family farm in Surry County, NC. After graduating as valedictorian from her high school, she attended Brevard College, where she met her future husband, George, They were married for 74 years until his death in 2020.

After George returned from serving in the Navy, they attended High Point College (now High Point University) and Duke University. She taught English in North Carolina public schools for many years, and especially enjoyed teaching Shakespeare to high school seniors. She also served as a faithful pastor’s wife, volunteering in many capacities through the years. She was a talented artist and writer, creating original Christmas cards every year that she sent to friends, family, and (until her death) Queen Elizabeth, who acknowledged the gesture each year.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Michael as well as her sisters, Jewel, Ruth, Rachel and Norma. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Lyndon Moore (Jay), granddaughter Sarah Moore Iandoli (David), grandsons Michael Moore (Marcy),Thomas Moore and Daniel Moore, great-grandchildren Isabella, Jacob, Mallory and Maverick, plus many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered for her faith, her kindness, her generosity, her feisty wit, and her joyfully over-the- top Christmas decorations. She loved God, her family and her friends, and so appreciated her church family and her wonderful neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Grace UMC, designated for the Warming Shelter Ministry.
