OAK ISLAND — Gary Victor Peterson, a resident of Oak Island, North Carolina, passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 86.
Mr. Peterson was born on September 15, 1939, in Clay County Kansas, son of the late John and Lois Peterson. He was a veteran of the US Army Reserves and had worked for the Veterans Administration in the VA Hospital system. Gary taught basket weaving at the Oak Island Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Michele Peterson; three sons, Del Peterson, Eric Peterson, and David Peterson; five step-children, Tony Joye, Eileen Sexton, Lucy Johnson, Anna Dye, and Jane Dye; and a brother, Lowell Peterson.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island where he was a long time member.
