WILMINGTON — Scotty Geneva Rader, 96, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, November 16, 2025, at her residence in Wilmington, NC.
The oldest of three siblings, Geneva was born in 1929 to parents Scotty and Nora Beaver in Rowan County, NC. Geneva attended Cleveland High School where she was active on the girls’ basketball team, later graduating with her class in 1948.
After graduation, Geneva met Ronald Rader and married in 1953 and later started a family. They enjoyed the outdoors and camping, often taking family trips camping and traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and searching out destinations across the country to visit. After retirement, Geneva and Ron traveled to the West coast and Alaska many times before they moved to Wilmington, NC.
Geneva loved cooking, often creating unique dishes from her recipes that would win her national titles with Pillsbury and The National Chicken Cooking Contest. She enjoyed working in her garden and canning the vegetables she loved and grew-always growing a little extra to share. Geneva also liked to bowl in her spare time. She loved being around the ladies in her league, especially listening to the sounds of everyone playing well. She helped bring them to the championship a few times by bowling a ‘perfect game’.
In 2019, Geneva and Ronald moved to Wilmington, NC to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law. Geneva’s sister, Nora Sutton, soon followed moving from Oregon to Wilmington to be with her sister and family.
Geneva is preceded in death by her husband Ronald B. Rader, survived by Scott and Patty Rader, Lisa Rader and husband Douglas Green, and sister Nora Sutton.
The family would like to thank the Davis Community staff, nurses, and doctors for caring for our Mother/Sister the last few years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Hospice Care Center in Wilmington, NC, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, online at lifecare.org or by phone at 910-762-9422. This is an organization the family feels strongly about.
