WILMINGTON — Kathryn Pleasant Montague of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born in Lillington, NC on May 14, 1939, the daughter of the late James Willard and Willa Laurene (Wilkins) Pleasant.
Kathryn was voted Best All-Around and most talented in high school. Which was not surprising given her loving nature. Throughout life she was an elegant and gracious person. Kathryn had many loves, amongst them was her love of books, nature, trees, and animals, especially cats and of course, the beach and the ocean which is why she chose to live near the water and in the house with the big Oak tree in the front yard. As an avid reader, Kathryn had knowledge on many subjects. She was a collector of sunsets and also volunteered through churches and other organizations throughout her life.
She adored her children and of all the things Kathryn loved, spending time with her grandchildren was at the top of her list.
Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Renee Montague; son and daughter-in-law, Joe C. Montague, Jr. and Rhonda Montague; 3 grandchildren, Derrick, Sierra and Brianna Montague; 3 great- grandchildren; 3 brothers, Gary, Michael and Ricky Pleasant and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Jeannette Knott and her grandson, Preston Carr Montague.
A memorial service, to celebrate Kathryn’s life, will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2 pm at the Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington.
