LELAND — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles “Marty” Erwin, who left us on October 20, 2025, at the age of 55. Born in Asheville, NC, on July 6, 1970, Marty spent his early years in Leland, NC, where he cultivated a love for adventure, camaraderie, and family values that would inspire those around him for the rest of his days.

Marty was a man of many passions and talents, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. After obtaining his Associate degree in Construction Management, Marty dedicated 20 years of his career to the transportation industry, where his work ethic and warm smile were well known among his colleagues.

Beyond his professional life, Marty was a man who lived for the joy of community and competition. He was an exceptional poker player, an adept pool enthusiast, and a fervent fan of WWE. A collector at heart, Marty amassed a remarkable collection of old currency, coins and bills, each item a testament to his appreciation for history and nostalgia.

A devout Christian, Marty’s faith was an anchor throughout his life, guiding him in times of challenge and triumph alike. His journey through life was further enriched when he met his beloved wife, Jennifer, in Seattle, WA. They spent 15 wonderful years there, building memories and friendships before moving to Castle Hayne, NC, where they continued their journey together.

Marty was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his stepdaughter, Jessica Sexton and her fiancé Nicholas Smith; his daughters, Abigail Erwin and her fiancé Gino Battani, and Tabitha Erwin. He also leaves behind his cherished sisters, Tammy Simmons of Shallotte, and Selena Erwin of Winnabow, along with his adored nephews and nieces, Martin and Madison Simmons as well as Samantha Kosh and her wife, Valeria and his nephew, Jeremy Erwin. Marty was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Charles and Barbara Erwin; brothers, Ronnie and Rodger. His memory will be kept alive by his many cats, who brought him endless joy and companionship.

Marty’s life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and resilience. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his humor, kindness, and unwavering spirit. Though no services are planned at this time, his family and friends will forever cherish the moments they shared with him.

As we remember Marty, let us celebrate a life well-lived, full of warmth, laughter, and love. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten, as his legacy continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
