
ROCKY POINT — Dennis Edward Ray, of Rocky Point, NC, (formerly from Gaithersburg, MD) passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, after an extended and courageous battle with colon cancer. He was 71 years old.
Denny, as he was known to his family and friends, served in the US Army, was a masterful carpenter his entire working life and had a gift of being able to turn a block of wood into anything. He loved working on lawnmowers, enjoying remote-controlled cars or airplanes, watching westerns and old television shows. More than anything else, he loved his children, grandchildren and great grandson and his beloved faithful 4-legged companion Curly.
Denny is predeceased by his wife, Chery Lynn Ray, (formerly Cheryl Lynn Gooden), his son, Dennis E. Ray, Jr., his mother, Mary Ellen Dashnaw (formerly Owens), his father Ralph Ray and his sister, Diane Ray. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Urgo (Ray) and her husband, Rick of Millville, NJ; son, Travis L. Ray of Leland, NC, his grandson, Ricky Urgo of Ann Arbor, Michigan, granddaughter, Alaina Urgo and her wife, Taylor of Pittsgrove, NJ along with their son, Wesley Urgo; his sisters, Deborah Langley of Burgaw, NC and Darlene Campbell of Rocky Point, NC, brother, Derek Ray of Raleigh, NC and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a private memorial service.
