WILMINGTON — Patricia Louise Peterson, born on June 2, 1947, in the heartland of Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 78. Her journey through life was marked by love, compassion, and a steadfast dedication to her family and community.
Patricia spent her early years in Iowa, where she embraced the values of hard work and kindness imparted by her parents, Ruth Laverta Cottrell and Harold Wenbourne, who preceded her in death. She carried these values throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
A devoted homemaker and business owner, Patricia thrived as the proprietor of a successful resale and thrift shop, where she combined her passion for business with her love for helping others. She was a yard sale enthusiast, always on the hunt for treasures, and delighted in sharing her finds with family and friends. Her culinary skills were unmatched; she found great joy in cooking and feeding those around her, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all.
Patricia’s faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of the Eastern Star. Her commitment to her beliefs was evident in her unwavering dedication to Jesus and her community. She was recognized for her tireless work with abused women and children and opened her heart and home as a foster parent, offering love and security to those in need.
Her beloved husband, Michael Peterson, preceded her in death, leaving behind cherished memories of their life together. Patricia is survived by her three devoted daughters, Shannon, Nicole, and Tami, who carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. She is also survived by her sister, Marleen Baugous, and her brother, Michael Wenbourne. Her nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with another eagerly anticipated, were the light of her life, and she adored each of them with all her heart.
Patricia had a unique gift for making everyone she met feel like family; she never met a stranger. Her warmth and open-heartedness touched countless lives, and she will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will hold private services to honor Patricia’s life. They invite those who knew her to celebrate her memory in their own special way, cherishing the life of a woman whose kindness and generosity will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
