WILMINGTON — Edward Earl Gray, born on May 24, 1959, in Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, in Rocky Point, North Carolina, at the age of 66. A life lived with passion and dedication, Edward was known for his work in the music industry and his vibrant spirit.

Edward’s passion for music led him to The Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied for two years, honing his skills and deepening his appreciation for the art. After his studies, he spent much of his career as a roadie, supporting various bands and sharing his love for music across countless venues.

A man of diverse interests, Edward found joy in riding motorcycles and enjoyed spending time with his friends from a local motorcycle club. His adventurous spirit and love for the open road were well known among his family and friends.

Faithful to his beliefs, Edward was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment.

Edward is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sophia Bennet. He leaves behind his cherished spouse, Laurie Skipper Gray, who stood by his side through life’s journey. He is also survived by Laurie’s children, Elizabeth (Richard), Angie (Alvin), and Lex (Catherine), along with numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A gathering of friends and loved ones will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025, between 3-5pm at the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel to celebrate Edward’s life and legacy. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association–Cape Fear, reflecting Edward’s commitment to helping others.

Edward Earl Gray will be remembered for his unwavering passion for music, his zest for life, and the love and kindness he shared with all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
