WILMINGTON — Joan Elaine Blank, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, peacefully passed away on August 4, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 83. Born on September 7, 1941, in Findlay, Ohio, she lived in Wilmington, NC, the last 30 years.
Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Richard Dale Blank, her parents, Raymond Dale Wise and Ada Ecker Wise; her brother, Larry; and her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Porterfield.
Joan is survived by a loving family who will continue to honor her legacy. This includes her daughter, Michelle Wall and her husband Fred, along with their son Austin; son, Tim Thomas and his wife Sue along with their children Mitchell and Jason; son, Tony Thomas and his wife Mary along with their children Amanda and Aaron; daughter, Pamela Boyd and her children Lisa and Greg; daughter, Star Retterer and her child Bryan; son, Doug Blank and his wife Carlotta along with their children Erin and Valerie; as well as Rob and Holly, Becky’s children, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Joan celebrated life’s journey with a spirit that was both fun and spirited. She deeply cherished family gatherings, creating countless memories filled with laughter and warmth and lots of food. Her home was a sanctuary of love, where everybody was welcome to join the feast. Joan loved to read and to be well informed and was part of book clubs. Her love of travel took her from coast to coast camping on a motorcycle or 5th wheeler depending on the season.
Joan Elaine Blank leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will endure within the hearts of all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed, yet always remembered.
