Mary Helena Heibel Corcoran, 89

Mary H Corcoran (Wilmington Funeral & Cremation)

WILMINGTON — Mary Helena Heibel Corcoran passed away on July 27, 2025, just one day shy of her 89th birthday. She was born as one of twelve siblings, in Muskegon, Michigan to Michael George Heibel and Mamie Lena (Dalton) Heibel. We all cherished the laughter that would explode when all the sisters gathered round.

Mary was multi-talented. She was best known for her incredible sewing skills. She could whip up a prom dress in no time, alterations were never a problem, and she leaves a legacy of hand-made Raggedy Ann Dolls that are now, no doubt, special family heirlooms.

If you knew Mary well, you would know the best adjective to describe her was determined. As an adult learner, she earned a degree in Hotel Motel Management which we are sure was a breeze for her as she always knew how to make our house a home. Mary fulfilled her dream of building a beautiful home at the beach from the ground up. Mary lived in Carolina Beach, NC and contributed to the community for almost 30 years.

Mary volunteered at the elementary school, could often be seen walking along the seashore or riding her beach bike. She always had a book in hand and room in her armchair for a little one to squeeze in next to her.

Mary is survived by 2 brothers: John (Grace) Heibel, Patrick (Patricia) Heibel, 3 sisters: Joan (Joseph) Kleeves, Marjorie (Jim) Buchanan, and Catherine (Philip) Honore. Preceded in death by 3 brothers: George (Lenore) Heibel, Anthony (Jeanne) Heibel, Eugene (Fran) Heibel, and 3 sisters: Caroline (Constantine) Ballas, Ramona (Harry) Bohn, and Evangeline (Roy) Zimmerman.

She is survived by her children: Mari Beth Corcoran Greene, Marie Therese (John) Schillinger, Patrick Joseph Corcoran and Thomas Michael (Peggy) Corcoran. Mary is survived by 8 Grandchildren: Jamie Beth Paul, Kathryn Marie Schillinger, Karen Lynn Schillinger, Mark Gregory Schillinger, Michael Allen Corcoran, Christopher Alan Corcoran, Matthew Thomas Corcoran, and Kiana Mariah Shurkin. Mary is survived by one Great Grandson, Calvin Arthur Paul.

She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mary was cherished by family and friends and will be deeply missed.

In accordance with her family’s wishes, no formal services will be held at this time.

However, those wishing to express their condolences may do so here.
